“I’ve had the honor and privilege to perform Iosif Andriasov’s stunning Concertino for Trumpet and premiere two brilliant pieces by Arshak Andriasov, Torch No. 1 and Brass Trio, Op. 9 I commissioned. Iosif Andriasov’s trumpet writing is impressively innovative yet highly idiomatic. It is technically demanding without sacrificing an ounce of musicality.
Arshak Andriasov’s compositions for brass are uniquely crafted with rich harmonic and rhythmic juxtapositions. I find his use and combination of brass tone color particularly expressive and original. The challenging combination of piccolo trumpet, horn, and trombone was met with gusto and creativity when I commissioned him to write a brass trio for my recital. I could not be happier with the piece and I hope it becomes a staple among the repertoire for this unique instrumentation.
Working with Arshak to prepare these pieces was truly a pleasure and a very musically satisfying experience. Arshak and his family have been inspirational in their passionate advocacy and generosity in sharing the music of Iosif and Arshak Andriasov. I wish them all the best in their future musical endeavors.”
