Iosif Andriasov - Romance "Apple Tree" for Tenor and Piano, Op. 13
FROM THE BOOK: “ESSAYS ON THE MUSIC OF IOSIF ANDRIASOV” WRITTEN BY MARTA ANDRIASOVA (MARINA KUDRYASHOVA)
Iosif Andriasov composed the “Apple Tree” for Tenor and Piano, poetry by Stepan Shchipachov, in 1960. This Romance opens with a tranquil, serene theme, which moves to an impetuous, dramatic culmination, which later returns to the initial calmness. There are two images in the text by Stepan Shchipachov - an apple tree and wind. Through those images of nature, the author narrates a life story, drawing a parallel between an apple tree (young, innocent girl), and the wind (a persistent cavalier). A narration takes place not from the “heroes” perspective, but from a third person.
"Она в цвету была, “She was in bloom,
In a white spring dress.
But the wind was ripping her dress,
And kissing her young body with desire. Now, whispering she would
In the garden, to a neighbor plum-tree.
But there is nothing to regret:
Ей, тихой и счастливой, She, content and happy,
Will be bearing fruits...”
